  • Premier League clubs with the most goals in the 90th minute make for interesting viewing
  • Liverpool tops this list with an impressive 42 goals in the 90-minute or later
  • The Reds were at it again on Saturday, December 9 thanks to Harvey Elliot’s goal

Liverpool showed they are the mentality monsters of the Premier League after leaving it late once again to collect all three points.

The Reds came up against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and went behind in the 57th minute through Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 57th-minute penalty.

But Liverpool levelled matters with their first shot on target of the afternoon as Mohamed Salah’s deflected strike found its way in.

Harvey Elliot then completed the turnaround with a fine strike in the 91st minute to beat Remi Matthews, who came on to replace Palace’s Number 1 Sam Johnstone.

While the victory was an ecstatic one for Liverpool as it took them top of the table, it was a familiar story for Jurgen Klopp’s team, who have developed a habit of coming up with late winners.

Most late winners scored in Premier League history

Elliot’s goal only cemented Liverpool’s place at the top in the tier of clubs with the most late winners in the Premier League era.

According to Opta, Liverpool's late-winning goals, Liverpool lead the line in that criteria, with an impressive 43 goals scored in stoppage time.

Arsenal come in second, with the Gunners scoring 32 late goals, while the Gunners’ North London rivals Tottenham are in third place on the list with 31 goals.

Manchester United, who coined the phrase ‘Fergie time’ because of their late goals during the club’s prime Premier League years, are fourth on the list with 29 late goals, while Chelsea are fifth with 26 goals.

What makes Jurgen Klopp’s team remarkable is the fact that out of the 43 late winners scored during the Premier League era, 17 have come during Klopp’s time with the club. That is at least 40% of Liverpool's late-winning goals since the Premier League’s inception.

Africans with the most Premier League goals

Sports Brief also reported on the most prolific Africans in Premier League history.

Mohamed Salah tops this list, as his strike against Crystal Palace took him to 150 Premier League goals.

The top 10 also features Sadio Mane, Emmanuel Adebayor and Didier Drogba.
