  • Real Madrid are blessed with a flurry of midfield talent
  • Lionel Messi is one of the most formidable opponents many players have faced
  • A Los Blancos star has ignored the Argentine and picked a surprise name as his toughest opponent

Real Madrid boasts a wealth of midfield talent, making Carlo Ancelotti's squad the envy of many.

One standout player among the club's impressive midfield cohort is Eduardo Camavinga, the 21-year-old who joined from Rennes in 2021 and has evolved into one of the finest midfielders of the modern game.

Camavinga's remarkable versatility has contributed significantly to his rise under the guidance of the Italian manager. Playing roles ranging from left back to central and defensive midfield, which is his natural position, he has faced off against some of the most talented football players in recent times, including Argentine star Lionel Messi.

However, in a recent interview with JDFootball, the French star surprised many by not naming the Argentine when asked to pick the most formidable opponent he has ever faced.

Camavinga on his most formidable opponent

The French star, known for his passion for both football and fashion, collaborated with a sports fashion brand ahead of Real Madrid's match against Real Betis.

In a rapid-fire question session, when pressed about his toughest opponent, Camavinga stated,

"For me, I think it was Bernardo Silva last year."

This choice of the Portuguese midfielder might be unexpected, especially considering Camavinga's encounter with Messi in the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar, where, unfortunately, he found himself on the losing side.

Currently sidelined due to a ligament injury, as reported by Marca, Camavinga aims for a swift recovery to contribute to Real Madrid's pursuit of titles as they approach the crucial stages of the football season.

Camavinga injured during training

As Sports Brief has previously reported, Real Madrid have a new injury concern to stress over in the coming weeks.

Camavinga had to leave the French team’s camp with a potential knee injury after colliding with Dembele in training.

Arda Guler, Thibaut Courtois, and Eder Militao are just some of the other Los Blancos stars who are currently injured.
