FootballBruce Bvuma Backed to Take Opportunity to Cement Position As Kaizer Chiefs Number One
- Bruce Bvuma was given his second start in succession by Cavin Johnson against Polokwane City
- The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper position has been a source of turmoil due to a string of incidents
- Itumeleng Khune's suspension has opened the door for Bvuma to have an extended run in goal
One man's misfortune is another's opportunity.
Bruce Bvuma repaid the faith shown in him by Cavin Johnson as he kept a clean sheet against Polokwane City in their DStv Premiership encounter.
The goalkeeper has had an inconsistent time at Kaizer Chiefs, serving well as an understudy to Itumeleng Khune but has been unable to dislodge the Amakhosi favourite.
With Khune's days left at Chiefs running low, the perfect time has come for the 28-year-old to make a claim for the number 1 jersey.
After his clean sheet in Dobsonville against Moroka Swallows, Johnson was quoted by iDiskiTimes as saying:
“Yes he got a chance, he has to make sure he keeps it, [make sure] his head doesn’t go to his body and he’s able to maintain."
Winning over the Amakhosi faithful is important and users on X reacted positively during his performance against Polokwane City.

Amogelang Wa Lekhosi @BlxckLipPastor noted:
"If it wasn't for Bruce Bvuma we could've conceded 1 or 2 goals because wow we're horrible defensively."
Author @RaphalaMahuna provided their analysis, posting:
"In 2021 I spoke about Bruce Bvuma’s ability to position himself, he doesn’t make a lot of difficult saves because of his awareness and anticipation. How I wish he can remain number 1."
