FootballJadon Sancho: Erik ten Hag Opens Return Door to Exiled Manchester United Star
- Jadon Sancho remains banished from the Manchester United first-team
- Sancho criticised his manager Erik ten Hag on social media in September
- The Dutch manager has not closed the door on a return for the winger
Jadon Sancho remains banished from Manchester United’s first team, but head coach Erik ten Hag insists the player’s return is entirely in his hands and knows what he must do.
Despite playing under different managers at the club, Sancho has been underwhelming for United since his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
He was given time off this year to get his fitness and psychological well-being up to speed but has yet to quite hit the full extent of his potential since his return.
The England winger was dropped for the 3-1 loss to Arsenal in September for poor training ethics, but he responded to his manager on social media, forcing the club to exile him from the first team, per BBC Sports.
Ten Hag’s update on Sancho’s return
Ahead of United’s home game against Bournemouth this weekend, ten Hag was quizzed about the player’s possible return, and he claimed it is up to him, as quoted by Daily Star.
“So it is about a culture, and every player has to match certain standards, and it was about that. What will happen [for Sancho's future?] He knows what he has to do, if he wants to return and it is up to him. He knows what he has to do, it is up to him,”
The 23-year-old is linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January, with many top European clubs, including Juventus and former club Borussia Dortmund, interested in him. However, the Italians are said to have second thoughts.
