  • Mesut Ozil trolled Tottenham after they set an unwanted Premier League record
  • The former Arsenal star labelled his rival Bottle Job FC after losing to West Ham
  • Rival fans have reminded him of how Arsenal failed to win the title last season

Mesut Ozil has bitten more than he can chew after targeting Arsenal’s rival Tottenham with a brutal dig on social media, with rival fans piling up on his neck.

Ozil spent eight years at Arsenal but left the club under acrimonious conditions after he was frozen out of the squad by Mikel Arteta, and he joined Fenerbahce six months before the end of his contract.

Spurs bottled a 1-0 lead to London rivals West Ham to lose 2-1, setting two unwanted records in the process, losing five games in a row from winning positions, per Opta.

The former German international quoted the tweet and fired a shot at Spurs, calling them Bottle Job FC for the record, but what followed was not what he would have expected.

Rival fans hit back at Ozil

The post was a delight for Gunners who enjoyed what their former player did, but rival fans reminded him how he was pushed out of the club and how Arsenal’s title aspirations ended last season.

@UtdEllis replied:

''Remind me the amount of days Arsenal spent in first place last season please?''

@_nseobong replied:

''Lmfaooo like Arsenal did not bottle the title in the 90th minute last season 😂😂 the biggest bottlers.''

@culerboi wrote:

''How many PLs did non bottling Arsenal win with you?😭🤣🤣''

It was not the first time the former Real Madrid star aimed a dig at Spurs; he once claimed he would never play for them, and Jose Mourinho, who was manager at that time, responded, “who told him we were interested in him.”

Ozil holds a unique PL record

Sports Brief reported that Ozil holds a unique Premier League record that has stood for seven years and would be hard to break.

The German star created 146 chances for teammates in the 2015/16 season, a record which has stood since that time. The closest anyone was close to it was Kevin De Bruyne, with 136 four years later.
