South African manager, Pitso Mosimane has disclosed the Liverpool star he was close to signing during his time with Premier Soccer League side, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Masandawana are a team that spreads their scouts beyond Africa, most especially South America, to poach football stars from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and others.
During Mosimane's time as Sundowns coach, the former Al Ahly manager won titles with foreign stars like Ali Meza, Mauricio Affonso, Ricardo Nascimento, and Gaston Sirino.
Mosimane, in a recent interview with DJ Sabby of Metro FM, according to a report by Soccer Laduma, confirmed that he was close to signing a Liverpool forward for Sundowns before he decided to join FC Porto.
"You know Luis Diaz, the guy playing for Liverpool on the left? I nearly bought him for Sundowns. I am not lying, he was in Colombia," he said.
The 59-year-old tactician also narrated how he would travel to South America to look out for top talents and bring them to Africa.
"I found all the South Americans in South America. I was going there, breaking them [away from their clubs], bringing them to Sundowns. I did it myself; do not listen to anybody. If you want to do something, you will make time."
Mosimane is currently without a position after departing UAE Pro League side, Al Wahda recently. He has been linked to the hot-seat at Kaizer Chiefs as well as other big-name clubs.
