FootballTottenham Set Two Unwanted Records After Defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League
- Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 to West Ham United on Thursday, December 7
- The North Londoners slipped to fifth on the log after a fourth loss this season
- Defeat also meant Ange Postecoglou’s team set two unwanted EPL records
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has taken a strange turn as they suffered yet another defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham United in the North London derby.
Spurs surrendered a first-half lead as the Hammers came from behind to secure a 2-1 win away from home. Christian Romero opened the scoring for Spurs in the 11th minute, nodding in Pedro Porro’s corner.
But Jarrod Bowen, who has been in frightening form away from home, levelled matters in the 52nd minute after latching onto a loose ball in the penalty area.
According to The BBC, Destiny Udogie’s poor back pass allowed James Ward-Prowse to score with a side-footed effort as the Hammers completed the turnaround in the 74th minute.
Spurs set unwanted records after loss
The full-time whistle came with a grim reality for Tottenham who, only five weeks ago, were top of the table.
Not only have Spurs lost 16 points from winning positions, but they are also the first side in the history of the Premier League to go 1-0 up on five different occasions and fail to win the game, according to Opta Joe.
Speaking after the game, Postecoglou made his true feelings clear as he faulted his team for lacking conviction.
"It's another game where we've dominated a game of football and we've not turned that into something more tangible and we keep the opposition in the game," the Australian remarked.
Things do not get any easier for Tottenham, as they face Newcastle United on Sunday, December 10, in a game that could see them drop to ninth place if results do not go in their favour.

FootballArsenal fans open fundraiser for Rice
In other Premier League news, as Sports Brief previously reported, a cheeky Arsenal fan has launched a fundraiser for Declan Rice’s ‘transfer fee’ as he believes West Ham was underpaid.
The £105 million fee for the midfielder was a record for a British player and an EPL record before it was surpassed by Moises Caicedo, whom Chelsea paid £115mil to sign from Brighton.
