  • Bayern Leverkusen are having a dream start to the Bundesliga season
  • The German club are currently unbeaten since the start of the campaign
  • Fans have trolled Die Werkself with comparisons despite their run of form

Bayer Leverkusen's remarkable ascent under Xabi Alonso's leadership stands out as one of Europe's football fairytales.

Since taking charge from Gerardo Seoane on October 5, 2022, the 42-year-old propelled Die Werkself to a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga and a semi-final appearance in the UEFA Europa League.

Entering the 2023-24 season, Alonso has further elevated Leverkusen's performance, leading the Bundesliga standings and posing a serious challenge to perennial favourites, Bayern Munich.

According to Fotmob data, Leverkusen remains unbeaten, having secured 18 wins, zero losses, and scoring an impressive 65 goals in 20 games.

Despite these outstanding achievements, a significant number of fans remain sceptical about the team's ability to sustain this form and clinch a trophy by the season's end.

On social media recently, numerous fans have mockingly criticised the Bundesliga leaders, even after their recent result against Borussia Dortmund.

Fans troll Bayer Leverkusen

@Authority Simon Peter Saint sarcastically commented:

"It's so surprising that still they won't take any trophy at the end of the season. Just an Arsenal in a German league 🤪🤪"

@Shahin Tonay, who wasn’t having any of the unbeaten start talk, posted:

"Take him with his team to the Premier League, and you will get the answer for this question in the first week, believe me.!!!"

@Mamba Chiyengo, who wasn’t buying into Leverkusen’s early season flattery, wrote:

"This doesn’t matter because FC Bayern München will still win the league."

@Abdullah Al-Araf posted:

"The shame will be them not winning the Bundesliga title this season."

It seems paradoxical that Alonso's team is facing criticism despite their impressive start.

However, considering the situation Arsenal faced in the Premier League last season - leading throughout but losing in the final phase, as reported by ESPN - one might be less surprised if Leverkusen experiences a similar trajectory.
