Diego Simeone still can’t get one over Barcelona.
The Atletico Madrid manager has never beaten La Blaugrana at their home, despite being Atleti's coach for close to 12 years.
Simeone once again came up short against the side when his team were beaten 1-0 by Xavi’s men.
As noted by BBC, Joao Felix scored the game's only goal as Barca leapfrogged Atletico Madrid on the La Liga table.
Having suffered his 19th career loss against the La Liga champions, Simeone was quizzed after the game about why he has never been able to beat Barca at their home.
In true Simeone fashion, the Argentinian coach responded that it must be because of what happened in 2014.
Simeone references title-winning game
The Atleti manager was referring to the last game of the 2013/14 season when his side won the La Liga title.
His team went into the final game with 89 points, while Barcelona was on 86. La Blaugrana needed a victory to win the title but could only muster a draw against Simeone’s side.
Alexis Sanchez gave Barca the lead, but a Diego Godin goal secured Atleti the draw and the title that season, Al Jazeera reported. It marked the first time since 2004 that a team other than Barcelona or Real Madrid had won the league title.
