Mamelodi Sundowns are re-writing the record books with every win they notch up.

Sundowns won their ninth consecutive league game of the season when they beat SuperSport United 2-0, surpassing Kaizer Chiefs's eight, based on stats by OptaJabu.

In the 2014/15 season, Chiefs went on a 19-game unbeaten run at the start of the season, winning 14 and drawing five. Chiefs went on to win the league by 12 points.

According to FBRef, Amakhosi's first defeat came in the seventh month of the season when they lost 2-0 to SuperSport United. They almost went the season unbeaten at home but lost their last home game to Wits University.

Talk is already bubbling about 'invincibility' but Sundowns' worst enemy could be fixture congestion, with two tough league games in the last week of the year following their CAF Champions Leagues trip.

After two games against emerging Egyptians, Pyramids FC, Sundowns visit Cape Town City on Christmas Eve before hosting Moroka Swallows the day after Boxing Day.

Eric Tinkler or Steve Komphela would love to be the first domestic coach to inflict defeat on Rulani Mokwena but two Europeans will have the next opportunities to do so.

Pablo Martin's Amazulu are next in the league for Sundowns before Ernst Middendorp plots the most outrageous of upsets when rock-bottom Cape Town Spurs travel to Tshwane on December 13.

How Ernst Middendorp can improve Cape Town Spurs

Sports Brief recently reported on Cape Town Spurs' struggles and how their approach needs to change.

Ernst Middendorp took over in mid-November and has two defeats from two attempts to his name.

Spurs' midfield is fragile and their defence lacks pace but better rigidity can unlock their pacy forwards.
