FootballAC Milan Great Cafu Explains Why Brazil Can’t Win the World Cup Because of the Premier League
- Legendary Brazil defender Cafu believes his home nation won't win the World Cup because of the Premier League
- Brazil's last global triumph was in 2002 when the Selecao beat Germany to lift their fifth title
- Since then, their best finish was a 4th-place spot at the 2014 World Cup
Brazilian football legend Cafu has revealed that the English Premier League could significantly hamper the Selecao's chances of winning the FIFA World Cup.
As the captain who led Brazil to their fifth World Cup victory in 2002, Cafu shared doubts regarding the Selecao's ability to secure another Mundial.
The iconic AC Milan and AS Roma defender voiced his belief that the mentality of Brazilian players might be adversely affected by their involvement in the English top-flight league.
A number of Brazil's key players, including goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Ederson Moraes, Arsenal's defender Gabriel Magalhaes, midfielders Bruno Guimaraes, Douglas Luiz, Casemiro, Lucas Paqueta, and forwards Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Richarlison, are currently active in the EPL.
The 53-year-old football icon suggested that these players might be influenced to perceive the EPL as the premier football arena, a perspective he hinted might lead to a certain "brainwashing" effect.
“I am afraid, the more we have Brazilians moving to the Premier League, the fewer chances for Brazil to win the World Cup," he said as quoted by Ibrahim Saanie Daara.
"Imagine being brainwashed by the media every week that you are the best in the world. Meanwhile, you are not near the best.
Cafu, celebrated as one of the finest right-backs in football history, advocated for a more elevated mentality, highlighting La Liga's environment as conducive to fostering a winning mentality among players.
He argued that this mental disposition could significantly impact the outcome of major tournaments, adding that a deficiency in character might also impact Brazil's performance at the highest echelons of the sport.

Football"I prefer La Liga because they have a high mentality to reach finals and win them. In La Liga, they don't have a mouth in front of TV cameras telling lies about Spanish players or hyping them to the world.
