Arsene Wenger says he was called ‘crazy’ for comparing Kylian Mbappe to Brazil icon Pele when he first spotted the French superstar as a teenager while playing for Monaco.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar burst into the limelight as a youngster, catching the attention of the former Arsenal manager, who immediately saw the similarities with Pele.
Mbappe would later go on to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, equalling the record held by the late Brazilian legend.
Wenger has not been surprised by his achievements in football, as PSG Talk reports.
"At the time, I was told that I was a little crazy, but that was the spontaneous impression I had without thinking. He has enormous potential."
Mbappe has become a global icon since bursting through the scenes at Monaco, winning multiple trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles and top scorers awards in France for four consecutive seasons.
Mbappe keeps setting the pace
Meanwhile, Mbappe is considered one of the future greats despite only being 24, owing to his many achievements on the football pitch with France and PSG, GOAL reports.
The star forward made his international debut in 2017 for France and enjoyed arguably the highlight of his career one year later when he led Les Bleus to World Cup glory.
Mbappe also helped France win the UEFA Nations League in the 2020/21 season and has won five league titles and seven major knock-out competitions in his career so far.
