A former South African international Papi Khomane has passed away along with his mother in a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the death of their former captain as the tragic incident leaves the entire football fraternity in deep sorrow.

Khomane made 150 appearances for the Buccaneers after joining from Jomo Cosmos back in 1998.

iDiski Times reports that the son of Bucs legend Yster Khomane was on the books of the club between 1998 and 2007.

He also had nine caps for the South African national football team and was part of the Bafana Bafana squad to AFCON 2000.

The former defender passed away alongside his mother, Rita Khomane, following a tragic accident as they headed for a funeral.

In a club statement, Pirates described Khomane, 48, as a man of few words.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing away of former captain Papi Khomane.
“The Club was informed by his father and another Bucs legend, Yster Khomane who confirmed that both his son and his wife Mrs Rita Khomane were involved in a motor vehicle accident today.
“Papi was a man of few words, but his presence on the pitch spoke volumes. His transformation from a quiet individual into a formidable leader during games was nothing short of inspirational.”

Raphael Dwamena passes away

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena sadly passed away after collapsing during an Albanian Superliga game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani.

The 28-year-old collapsed in the 23rd minute of the game and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead as he had been playing with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defribillator due to a heart problem.

The lanky forward's first case of a heart condition was when his move to Brighton hit the snag due to failing his medical.
