Chelsea reportedly face the risk of losing one of their hottest prospects in the shape of Ian Maatsen, to Premier League rivals, Manchester City.

The Blues and City swapping players is a common tradition, with Raheem Sterling and Mateo Kovacic among the high-profile players who have swapped the two teams in recent years.

Sterling famously dumped the Cityzens in the summer of 2022, with the Englishman moving to Stamford Bridge in a £50m deal on a five-year contract.

Kovacic is the most recent player to ply his trade with both clubs, with the Croatian midfielder leaving Chelsea for City in the summer.

Sportbible reports that Maatsen could become the latest player to swap the west London club for the reigning English champions.

Reports claim that the youngster has already set his sights on linking up with Pep Guardiola at the Manchester-based club.

According to Football Insider, Guardiola is keen to have the youngster join him ahead of the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Burnley and formed a key part in the club's promotion to the Premier League under Vincent Kompany.

However, he has seen game time hard to come by under Mauricio Pochettino, as he is yet to start in the league since returning to Chelsea.

He came close to joining Burnley on a permanent deal in the summer but opted to stay and fight for his place under Pochettino.
