  • Benni McCarthy faces uncertain future at Manchester United amid PSL return
  • The former Bafana Bafana striker is being linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs
  • The ex-FC Porto star joined the Red Devils alongside Erik ten Hag in 2022

South African football legend, Benni McCarthy's future at Manchester United is presently uncertain, with a return to the Premier Soccer League also being on the cards.

The former FC Porto striker has been an assistant coach under Erik Ten Hag since last season but could be out of the club with new owners coming in.

McCarthy had a brief spell working with Cristiano Ronaldo as he is the club's striker's coach, and had his biggest achievement by turning Marcus Rashford into a top striker.

The England international scored 17 goals in the English Premier League for the Red Devils, and his success was solely attributed to the Bafana Bafana legend's input.

According to a report by GOAL, Manchester United's current goalscoring record leaves McCarthy's job in jeopardy and could be relief of his duties if British petrochemicals magnate, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, eventually take over the affairs of the club from the Glazers.

The former Cape Town City is being linked with a move back to the DStv Premiership, with Kaizer Chiefs still in search of a permanent manager.

Cavin Johnson is currently acting as the interim manager of the Glamour Boys, but Pitso Mosimane and McCarthy are top runners for the job.

Akpeyi speaks on Kaizer Chiefs' current struggles

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Super Eagles star, Daniel Akpeyi weighed in on the struggles of Kaizer Chiefs, ahead of facing them with his new team, Moroka Swallows.

Chiefs have been struggling for form since the beginning of the season, and their poor performance has led to the sacking of Molefi Ntseki as coach.
