FootballKeegan Allan on Choosing Playing Time at Moroka Swallows Over Wealth at Mamelodi Sundowns

Progress isn't always made in a straight line.
Keegan Allan has had an unconventional path to the DStv Premiership but the current season is seeing him lay a claim to a permanent spot in the Moroka Swallows backline.
Having left Mamelodi Sundowns as a teenager, the 22-year-old enjoyed a revitalisation at the University of Pretoria before being snapped up by the Dube Birds.
The queue to the first team at Chloorkop is long and regardless of ambition, a true footballer's heart is on the field, not the sidelines.
Despite being offered the financial incentive to stay at Sundowns, Allan took a gamble at a second-tier side rather than continue in the Diski Challenge.
The long-term reward has materialised, and Allan elaborated on his thinking at the time. SoccerLaduma reported Allan's comments at Swallows' media day:
"I needed to start playing professional football and getting games under my belt. It is about belief in yourself and and belief in your abilities, and it has worked out quite well fortunately."
Allan's consistency is what has endeared him to coach Steve Khompela and the Dube Birds' faithful. His sentiments have not changed, with SowetanLive quoting Allan while he was still at Tuks:
"It’s a very difficult decision to make because Sundowns is Sundowns. I grew a lot there as a player, I was there for four years, and I enjoyed every second of it."
Moroka Swallows welcome Kaizer Chiefs to Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, November 26, with a chance to gain ground on the league leaders.
