Close family members of Antonela Roccuzzo, Lionel Messi's wife, were put through a harrowing moment after thieves made away with money in Rosario.

The incident happened while a cousin of Roccuzzo was transporting money from their store to the bank. The robbery is said to have been violent in nature.

Marca reports that the thieves ambushed the vehicle Roccuzzo's cousin and two of their employees were travelling in, breaking the windows before making away with a sum believed to be around 22,500 USD.

No injuries were reported and the head of Radio Command in the area, David Santamaria revealed that investigations had been launched.

"They were leaving the supermarket and going to a nearby bank. At 5pm, they were approached by a white car, the glass was broken, and the bags with the large sum of money were taken."

More misfortune for Messi?

The incident happened around the same time when Messi was in Brazil for their sixth game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The game started 30 minutes from the intended time after violent crowd trouble.

The veteran appeared to pick up an injury in the game's early stages at the Maracana Stadium but he soldiered on until the 78th minute, when Angel Di Maria took his place.

Nicolas Otamendi had earlier scored the goal that proved to be the winner, to safeguard La Albiceleste's grip at the top of the CONMEBOL standings.
