Following the sacking of Molefi Ntseki as the head coach, Premier Soccer League side Kaizer Chiefs have continued their search for a permanent manager.

Cavin Johnson has been appointed to take over temporarily, but there are a number of tacticians who have been linked with the club including Pitso Mosimane.

AmaKhosi are one of the most successful clubs in South Africa - having won 13 league titles - and they are the most supported club in the country.

Kaizer Chiefs draw an average home attendance of 16,144 in the 2019/20 season; the highest in the league to date.

As the club continues to face the challenge of getting a permanent technical crew to turn things around, Sports Brief takes a look at the most successful Kaizer Chiefs coaches ever.

Most successful Kaizer Chiefs coaches

1. Ted Dumitru

The Romanian football manager won back-to-back league titles and consecutive Coca-Cola Cup titles for the South African outfit.

He was branded as the ‘development master’, having nurtured some of the best talents in the history of the club.

Dumitru led the club to eight trophies with them during his three-year tenure. After leaving the club, he worked in developing young players and local coaches across the country.

2. Muhsin Ertugral

This is another coach who is also right up there with the most successful coaches in the PSL era for the Soweto giants.

The current Turkey national team technical advisor had two stints with Kaizer Chiefs. His first spell was between 1999 and 2003 and he returned in 2007, before parting ways with the club two years later.

During his time with AmaKhosi, they won seven trophies, including their most illustrious - the African Cup Winners’ Cup (Mandela Cup).

Soccer Laduma reported that under Ertugral, Amakhosi won everything but the league title. The Turk returned for a second spell between 2007 and 2009 and won the MTN8 in 2008.

3. Jeff Butler

This manager created history, not just with Kaizer Chiefs, but with South African football in general following his achievements. He was AmaKhosi manager on four different occasions between 1988 and 1996.

He revamped the squad and won the JPS Knockout Cup in his first season. Butler also guided the club to the NSL First Division title in 1989, 1991, and 1992 as well as the BP Top Eight Cup in 1989, 1991, and 1992.

Kaizer Chiefs also won domestic trebles in 1991 and 1992 under Butler's guidance.

Analysing why Mosimane left Al Wahda

Sports Brief has previously reported on why Pitso Mosimane left Al Wadha in the United Arab Emirates' top flight football league.

The South African tactician left by mutual agreement, even though the club was climbing the log and had recorded two major wins.
