FootballBefore Mohamed Salah: Revisiting the Last Time Liverpool Beat Man City at The Etihad
- Manchester City host Liverpool in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend
- The Reds have not beat City at the Etihad Stadium in over seven years
- The last time Liverpool defeated the Citizens at home was in 2015/2016
The biggest Premier League game of the weekend takes place on Saturday, November 25 as Manchester City prepares to host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
Both teams have already shown early signs that they are well in the title race, with City sitting in first place and the Reds a close second after 12 matches.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are only one point behind the defending champions and go into the game knowing a win will go a long way toward their title ambitions.
Pep Guardiola’s side has shown some vulnerability this season, suffering two EPL defeats in a row in October and giving fans an entertaining classic in the 4-4 draw against Chelsea in their last game.
With the game being played at the Etihad Stadium, however, Liverpool will find it hard to surpass their rivals as they have not won at the City fortress in more than seven years.
The last time Klopp’s side masterminded a win against Man City away was in the 2015/16 season, when Manuel Pelligrini was still at the helm.
When Liverpool beat City at the Etihad
The date was November 21, 2015, and Leicester City were mounting a strange title challenge against the odds that season.
Man City hosted Liverpool with hopes of returning to the top of the Premier League at the expense of the Foxes, but things did not go as planned for Manuel Pelligrini’s side.
As reported by the BBC, a dazzling first-half performance from Klopp’s side saw Liverpool completely outclass their opponents, despite having inferior players on paper.
They took a 3-0 lead before the break through Eliaquim Mangala's early own goal and strikes from Phillipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Goalkeeper: Simon Mignolet
RB: Nathaniel Clyne
CB: Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren
LB: Alberto Moreno
DM: Lucas Leiva
CM: James Milner, Emre Can
RW: Adan Lallana
