- Club legend Gerard Pique has offered advice to the youngster following his injury
The injury to Barcelona midfielder Pablo Gavi stole the spotlight during the international window.
The young Spanish talent, considered one of football's brightest, suffered a blow to the knee from Cremonese's Luka Luchoshovili during La Roja's victory against Georgia.
Despite initially continuing to play, Gavi eventually went down clutching the same knee seven minutes later, clearly distraught.
ESPN reports that the 19-year-old has been diagnosed with a complete cruciate ligament tear and a meniscus rupture, sidelining him for the foreseeable future. Despite the gloom surrounding the injury to the 2022 Golden Boy Award winner, former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has offered valuable advice to Gavi for his recovery.
Pique offers Gavi advice
In a recent interview with outlet El Laguero, the 36-year-old retired defender empathised with Gavi's situation and advised him not to rush his recovery. Pique, with his extensive career, understands the temptation for Gavi to push himself to be available for the upcoming Euro tournament, especially since it would be his first.
Pique emphasised the importance of Gavi prioritising his well-being over the desire to return quickly.
"The important thing now is that he recovers well; he should not be in a hurry. It's possible that mentally he's thinking about the European Championship and the Olympic Games, but I advise him to only come back when he's well," said Pique.
The former Barcelona captain urged the La Masia graduate to take it easy, reminding him of the long career ahead.
Acknowledging the significance of the European Championship, Pique shared his perspective, stating,
