  • Kenya have in the past secured memorable wins on the international stage
  • Their 9-1 win over Djibouti back in 1998 remains their biggest victory in history
  • Harambee Stars demolished Seychelles 5-0 on Monday night to add to their haul of huge wins

Kenya's Harambee Stars were in the best form of their lives during their World Cup qualifier against Seychelles on Monday, November 20.

The Enjin Firat-tutored side secured a huge 5-0 win over the island nation, a major boost to their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

The big victory came just days after Harembee Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Gabon in their Group F opener staged at Stade de Franceville.

However, on Monday, Kenya redeemed themselves by seeing off Seychelles in a thrilling clash played at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

According to The Star, Qatar-based striker Michael Olunga was twice on target as Kenya hammered the hosts 5-0.

Olunga scored a quick-fire brace inside the opening 10 minutes before Masud Juma, Rooney Onyango, and substitute Benson Omalla joined the goal fest.

Incidentally, this was one of Kenya's biggest wins in the country's football history.

Sports Brief takes a look at six other big victories secured by Kenya on the international stage:

6. Kenya vs Seychelles

Ironically, Seychelles have previously fallen victim to Kenya's wrath on the pitch.

Back in 2011, Harambee Stars hammered the island nation 4-0 in a preliminary qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Victor Wanyama and legendary striker Dennis Oliech were among the goalscorers at the time.

5. Kenya vs Mauritania

Kenya beat Mauritania 4-0 during another Africa Cup of Nations Qualification match at the Nyayo Stadium back in 2003.

Jacob "Ghost" Mulee was in charge of the team at the time.

4. Kenya vs Tanzania

In 2003, Jacob "Ghost" Mulee also led Kenya to one of their biggest wins in history when they beat neighbours Tanzania 4-0 at home.

According to Team Kenya, Titus Mulama was the man of the moment at the time, with a brace to his name.

3. Kenya vs Ethiopia

The Kenya vs Ethiopia Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 saw Harambee Stars bag one of their most memorable wins in recent years.

The tie ended in a 3-0 win for Harambee Stars, with Olunga, Eric Johanna and Victor Wanyama all scoring.

2. Kenya vs Uganda

Whenever Kenya and Uganda meet, fans are almost guaranteed a cracker.

In 2004, under the tutelage of 'Ghost Mulee, Kenyan fans were treated to a rare spectacle after they beat rivals Uganda Cranes 4-0 at the City Stadium.

John Baraza bagged a brace, with Mark Sirengo and James Omondi also getting their names on the scoresheet.

1. Kenya vs Djibouti

Finally, on this list is the 1998 meeting between Kenya and Djibouti.

The match saw Harambee Stars demolish Djibouti 9-1 at the Kasarani Stadium.

Sammy Okoth grabbed a hat trick in the match, with Maurice Sunguti, Boniface Ambani and Francis Oduor all scoring a brace each.

Harambee Stars lose to Gabon

Harambee Stars began their World Cup qualifying journey four days earlier with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Gabon.

Sports Brief reported on how an injury-ravaged Kenyan side flew to Franceville to play their first competitive game in over two years following the lifting of the ban by FIFA earlier this year.
