  • Erling Haaland could miss Norway’s showdown against Scotland on Sunday
  • The Manchester City striker went down after twisting his ankle playing against Faroe Islands
  • The Cityzens face Liverpool in their next Premier League encounter on Saturday, November 25

Manchester City will be concerned about the fitness of Erling Haaland ahead of their top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool on Saturday, November 25.

Haaland was subbed on at halftime in Norway’s 2-0 win over Faroe Islands in a friendly on Thursday but left the field in discomfort towards the end of the game.

The 23-year-old appeared to injure himself in the 87th minute while trying to connect with a cross from his teammate. It is a similar injury to one he suffered several weeks ago, which forced him off at halftime when Manchester City played Bournemouth.

Norway’s team doctor explains Haaland’s injury

As reported by Liverpool Echo, Norway’s team doctor Ola Sand confirmed Haaland suffered an injury in the same problematic ankle.

"It was much of the same that happened against Bournemouth a week and a half ago. He has had it before too" Sand said. "He gets a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly. Then we'll see tomorrow how he is then."

Haaland’s next fixtures

According to Sky Sports, Norway face Scotland in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Sunday, November 19, and whether Haaland will be fit enough to feature in that game is yet to be seen.

After that, the Norwegian will return to his club, who face a tricky test against Manchester City in their next Premier League game.

City hopes Haaland doesn’t aggravate his injury while on international duty since he has been the team’s most important player again this season.

Across all competitions, Haaland has netted an impressive 17 goals in just 18 appearances and currently leads the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Salah breaks record with hat trick for Egypt

Still on Premier League stars, Sports Brief reported on Mohamed Salah’s four-goal haul for Egypt on Thursday.

Salah set a new record after scoring four times in Egypt's 6-0 thrashing of Djibouti in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The 31-year-old became Egypt's all-time leading scorer in World Cup qualifiers after netting a quadruple on Thursday night in Cairo. The Liverpool star has now scored 15 goals for the Pharaohs in the qualifiers.
