Sports Brief looks at five transfer targets Jurgen Klopp missed out on and how they are faring where they are as first analysed by Planet Football.

1. Moises Caicedo

The biggest of them all. Chelsea spent the whole summer courting the Ecuadorian midfielder but could not agree a fee with Brighton. Per The Athletic, Liverpool gazumped the Blues and agreed a £111 million price with Brighton, which Todd Boehly toppled at £115mil to sign the player.

Caicedo gave away a last-minute penalty in his first game against West Ham but has grown more confident in the team alongside Enzo Fernandez.

2. Romeo Lavia

The Reds were in pole position to sign Romeo Lavia until they poked into Caicedo’s transfer. In another publication by The Athletic, Chelsea swooped and had help from Caicedo and legend Eden Hazard to sign the young Belgian for £58mil. He has yet to play for the London club after suffering an ankle injury during his integration training but is expected to return after the November international break.

3. Kephren Thuram

Kephren, the son of legendary fullback Lilian Thuram, was deemed too expensive in transfer fee and salary by the Merseyside club. He is an integral part of the OGC Nice team with the best defence in Europe's top five leagues and are top of the French Ligue 1.

4. Cheick Doucoure

After missing out on Caicedo and Lavia, the Reds were linked to Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure. Per BBC Sports, the Eagles quoted a mouthwatering fee of £70mil for the Malian international to wade off interest in their prized asset. Despite Palace’s poor start to the season, the 23-year-old continues to impress.

5. Piero Hincapie

The Reds registered interest in the 21-year-old Ecuadorian defender in the summer but were more focused on getting a midfielder, his agent Manuel Sierra confirmed via Metro UK. He did not rule out a January move, but Bayer Leverkusen could prevent it as they aim to end Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance.

Hazard spotted at Stamford Bridge

Sports Brief reported that Eden Hazard was spotted at Stamford Bridge before the 1-1 draw between his former club and visiting Liverpool.

The Belgian spent seven years at Chelsea but is without a club after Real Madrid terminated his contract. It was initially unclear why he was at the game, but it was later disclosed it was linked to the transfer of Lavia.
