2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Former Nigerian International Peter Ijeh Sends Message to Super Eagles

• Peter Ijeh believes Nigeria can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

A former Nigerian international Peter Ijeh has urged the Super Eagles to begin the 2026 FIFA World qualifiers on a flying note as they take on Lesotho on Thursday, November 16.

Nigeria host the Crocodiles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as they begin their quest for qualification to the global showpiece.

Jose Peseiro's side have converged in Uyo ahead of the showdown against Lesotho as they also have a date with Zimbabwe four days later.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after losing out to the Black Stars of Ghana. Now they begin the quest for the next edition and former striker Peter Ijeh says the team's striking is boundless and electrifying.

He told Sports Brief: "Nigeria's striking prowess is boundless and electrifying and exciting to watch with the right players' chemistry. Proactive coaching and management should envision that.

"Nigeria are drawn in CAF's qualification Group C, which also has Benin, Rwanda and South Africa, with the group winners picking an automatic ticket to the World Cup.

Ijeh also cautioned: "The group game is no longer a sprint but a semi-marathon where picking point is essential; however, a strategic team can make it a sprint by setting the game day objectives. Strikers must understand the strategy and work through that to create and convert scoring chances."

Nigeria players report to camp

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Super Eagles camp in Uyo has taken shape as 11 more invited Nigeria players arrived in Akwa Ibom State capital ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.

Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Joe Aribo, and Bright Osayi Samuel were welcomed by members of the state's Football Normalization Committee at the Victor Attah International Airport before heading to the team’s camp at Four Points by Sheraton Ikot Ekpene.

With the new arrivals, the number of players in camp has now increased to 23, including Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, who was drafted in to replace Maduka Okoye.
