Uruguay national team Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa has recalled Luis Suarez to his side ahead of two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Suarez will lead the team against Argentina and one of his favourite friends, Lionel Messi, when they travel to Buenos Aires for the showdown on November 17.
His return marks the first time Bielsa has called him for national duty since he took over the coaching duties in May this year. El Pistolero, as he is fondly known in some quarters, last featured for the La Celeste during their shock World Cup group stage exit last year.
Argentina currently leads the CONMEBOL standings with a perfect record, having won all of their first four matches. Uruguay are in second place with seven points.
Inter Miami reunion?
The Messi-Suarez reunion comes at a time when talk has been rife that Inter Miami might make a move for the former Barcelona captain in January.
ESPN reports that Grêmio coach Renato Gaúcho has already confirmed that the 36-year-old will be leaving the club at the end of the year.
After the clash in Argentine's capital, Messi's side will travel to the Maracana for another showdown against Brazil as Uruguay host Bolivia in Montevideo.
Suarez bags hat-trick in Brazil
Suarez recently pulled a hat-trick out of his hat in the second half of Gremio's 4-3 win over title rivals Botafogo to add further drama to the race.
He has scored 14 goals, provided ten assists in 28 Brasileiro Serie A games this season, and helped the club join the top of the league with five games left.
