A group of Ghanaian men and women have held a memorial for late England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton in Accra.

Sir Bobby Charlton died on October 21, 2023, at the age of 86.

The funeral of the iconic English footballer is currently ongoing in Manchester, with thousands of fans paying their last respect to the legend, as reported by aol.com.

While there is a procession in Manchester for Sir Bobby Charlton, there is one also being held in Accra.

In a video shared on social media, a live band and a group of people in red and black gathered to pay homage to the late hero. A banner of Bobby Charlton with a World Cup trophy was also on display.

Supporters of the national football team of Ghana were also there to sing and dance as a celebration of his life.

Sir Bobby Charlton helped Manchester United win their first European title and was one of the surviving members of the Munich disaster. He was also part of the English team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup.

His place in English football history is up there with greats such as Sir Geoff Hurst and George Best.

England legend Sir Bobby Charlton dies

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that England World Cup winner and Manchester United great Bobby Charlton died on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the age of 86, sparking a series of tributes.

Charlton was a key member of England's victorious 1966 World Cup team and also enjoyed great success with United, who became the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968, a decade after members of the team were killed in an air crash in Munich.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was surrounded by his family," said a statement on behalf of the Charlton family.
