Olivier Giroud let emotions get the better of him as he received his first red card in the Serie A for berating the referee on Saturday, November 11.
The Frenchman stole headlines once again for his team, but this time it was for all the wrong reasons as he was dismissed in the 93rd minute in the 2-2 draw against Lecce.
He initially gave his side the lead in the 28th minute as Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders made it 2-0 in 35 minutes.
But the visitors were pegged back in the second half, as Lecce levelled matters in a span of five minutes through strikes from Nicola Sansone and Lameck Banda.
Giroud sent off
Late in the game, Giroud summed up what was a frustrating night for the Rossoneri as he rushed to referee Rosario Abisso to give him a piece of his mind.
As cited on Daily Star, Giroud strongly felt he deserved a free kick after appearing to be grabbed by a Leece defender, but the referee was having none of it.
Incensed that the decision did not go his way, Giroud rushed to the ref and aired his frustrations, who brandished a red card for dissent. Initially, the referee had brandished yellow, but left Giroud laughing sarcastically once it was upgraded to red.
Milan almost endured the worst ending to the game as Leece went forward in attack from the resulting free kick. They managed to find the back of the net, but the winner was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up.
