  • Erik ten Hag has asked his senior players to show character and lead the team
  • Manchester United's form this season has been worrying, to say the least
  • The Red Devils are on the brink of Champions League elimination

Erik ten Hag has issued a rallying call to his senior players to step up and help the side navigate through the sticky of form.

Manchester United have struggled to post consistent results this season, with the club currently eighth on the Premier League table, having lost five games already.

They have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup that they won last season, while their Champions League hopes also hang in the balance.

They host newcomers Luton on November 11, looking to bounce back from the crushing defeat to Copenhagen in midweek. The Red Devils were forced to play close to an hour with 10 men after Marcus Rashford was sent off.

Ten hag wants players to step up

Speaking ahead of the game, ten Hag has called on his players to show leadership to get their groove back on. The Dutch manager name-dropped his captain, Bruno Fernandes, former captain Harry Maguire and goalkeeper Andre Onana.

"We have such characters who can do it. I will mention Andre Onana, Harry and Scott McTominay, who, in such moments, show leadership," he said as quoted by the Mirror.

The former Ajax boss also grimaced at the fact that he was missing dependable players like Csemiro and Lisandro Martinez, who are both out with injuries.

"We have enough players with character and personality to step up and lead the team. But it's also on others to step up. Casemiro and Licha Martinez are not there, so others have to fill in."

After the international break, they will resume with an away trip to Everton before they face Galatasaray in a do-or-die Champions League clash.
