The use of technology was meant to be a simplifying process.

Since its inception, the Video Assistant Referee has increasingly taken centre stage as coaches and managers rage at the officials behind the television monitors.

Those sitting at home have amplified the debate, taking to social media to air their grievances.

Before being released by Al Wahda, Mosimane was himself watching a European football match from the comfort of his home.

Mosimane commented on a UEFA Champions League decision, as quoted by Sunday World:

“Football rules can be different according to the match officials. The very same goal that was allowed against Arsenal vs Newcastle is now disallowed in the game. I am watching Napoli vs U Berlin. (VAR included). Educate me here, listening.”

One helpful X user illustrated the coach's observation.

Others were happy to rant at the officials, who have become highly influential figures across 90 minutes.

Mosimane was pragmatic with his replies, stressing that teams find themselves both victims and profiteers at some stage, posting:

“I have lost and won games after VAR decisions, but I am still a big fan of VAR. It has really helped referees a lot in making difficult decisions that a naked eye could detect instantly but it also has loopholes. I believe it will get better with years.”

In South Africa, VAR is still not in use, which has led to glaring errors, as seen in Golden Arrows' win over Kaizer Chiefs.

SAFA stated in June that it was moving closer to implementing the use of technology but the current season is well underway with little movement on the subject.
