Sam Kerr: Chelsea and Matildas Star Proposes to Kristie Mewis After Months of Dating

• The duo has dated for over three years now since the Olympics in Tokyo

Chelsea Women's striker Samantha Kerr is now engaged after Kristie Mewis accepted her proposal.

Mewis is also a football player who turns out professionally for Gotham FC in the National Women's Soccer League in the United States.

The two have been seeing each other since the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics in 2021. They faced off in the semifinals, where Mewis' USA triumphed over Kerr's Australia in the bronze medal match.

Kerr scored in that game, which the Matildas lost 4-3. After the game, Mewis went to comfort her on the pitch, sparking rumours of a love relationship. They confirmed it a few days later and have since shared cosy videos and photos on Instagram.

Speaking to People, the 32-year-old Mewis confirmed that they are now engaged.

"She is my biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain all, all of my crazy antics."

Who is Sam Kerr?

Kerr is undoubtedly one of the best female footballers. She recently came in second in the 2023 Ballon d'Or vote behind Aitana Bonmati. The forward was supposed to be the leading light at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup co-hosted by her country and New Zealand, but a calf injury sustained a few days before the tournament curtailed her involvement.

She, however, made a quick recovery to score one of the best goals of the tournament when she beat England's Mary Earps with an outrageous strike from way out.

Her current contract expires at the end of this season when legendary Chelsea coach Emma Hayes is also expected to leave.
