FootballLionel Messi: Ballon d’Or Winner Admits He Missed Not Wearing Number 10 at PSG
- Lionel Messi spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain after he left Barcelona
- He finally left Europe and joined Inter Miami in the MLS after leaving PSG
- He has opened up about one 'unimportant thing' he missed during his time in Paris
Lionel Messi has opened up on one thing he missed not having during his two-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain, even though he claimed it is not a big deal.
Messi joined PSG in 2021 after Barcelona shockingly announced he would not be continuing at the club as they could not register his new contract due to La Liga's financial rules.
He signed a two-year contract with the French club and was given the number 30 shirt, as his preferred number 10 was occupied by former Barca teammate Neymar Jr.
His first season in Paris was underwhelming as he scored only six goals under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino, although he did help the club regain the Ligue 1 title.
Messi admits he missed number 10
Messi and French legend Zinedine Zidane had a chat with Adidas Football, and he reflected on his time in the French capital, speaking about his shirt number.
"When I was in Paris, I didn't wear the number 10 shirt. I was used to always wearing the number 10 shirt from all those years in Barcelona and the national team.
"Although it wasn't a big deal, I kind of missed a little not having "my number" because I have worn it all my life and I got used to it," he said.
"The number 30 was special for me too, I started playing with it. My first game was with the number 30. So it has something special too."
Per Goal, the Argentina captain was handed his favourite number 10 at Miami and was immediately named captain, displacing former skipper DeAndre Yedlin.
