Rasmus Hojlund insists Manchester United players are backing Erik ten Hag despite the club’s struggles this season.
The Red Devils hit a new low on Wednesday, October 8, after a 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen left their Champions League campaign in tatters.
Hojlund put his side two goals ahead inside the opening half hour, but his fortunes turned after Marcus Rashford was shown a red card for an apparent dangerous tackle on Elias Jelert.
The home side got back in the game through goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves' penalty, and despite United restoring the lead in the second half, they ultimately succumbed to defeat as 17-year-old substitute Roony Bardghji scored a stunner in the 87th minute after Lerager had restored parity once again.
Hojlund’s take
The game had a positive from an individual perspective as Hojlund became the first Manchester United player to score five goals in the team’s opening four Champions League games.
After the defeat, the young striker, signed for £72million in the summer, defended Ten Hag, insisting the team was behind the under-fire gaffer.
“A really good coach. He cares about every single detail and he helps me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence and supports me. I think every player in the dressing room supports him,” he said as cited on Express Sport.
“I hope it is just a matter of time [before United will be successful]. The first 30 minutes today was some of the best football we have been playing this season.”
According to UEFA.com, Hojlund is the leading marksman in the Champions League this season, as he is tied with five goals alongside Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
