  • Alejandro Garnacho learned the hard way to keep his emotions in check when leading
  • The Manchester United youngster made an arrogant gesture towards Copenhagen fans
  • Garnacho's actions in the game led to harsh words from opposing defender Denis Vavro

Alejandro Garnacho is a rising star but having played with Cristiano Ronaldo at a club level and with Lionel Messi in the national team, his emotions could be better guided.

Garnacho started and played the full 90 minutes in Manchester United's 4-3 humiliating defeat away at FC Copenhagen in round four of the UEFA Champions League.

The Argentine winger was largely a spectator and failed to impose himself on the game, and would probably have been substituted if Marcus Rashford had not been sent off.

Garnacho's humbled after shushing home fans

United threw away their two-goal lead in the first half and went into half-time drawn 2-2 after Harry Maguire conceded a penalty, which Diogo Goncalves converted.

The English defender atoned for his mistake and won a penalty in the second half, which captain Bruno Fernandes converted. As spotted by ESPN, Garnacho made a shushing gesture to the home fans at the time.

However, his team eventually lost the game and he sat deflated, much to the amusement of the Denmark fans and fans on social media who lambasted his arrogance.

Per United in Focus, he was a nuisance in both legs against the Danish champions. He was blasted by Slovakian defender Denis Vavro, who called him a clown after attempting to dig the penalty spot.

"I saw that he tried to do something about the penalty kick, but Kevin Diks stood in front and blocked. It is the second time. And then on our track? To me, he is a clown," he told Bold DK.
"He has the mentality of a child when he tries something like this again. In an away game."

United coach ten Hag criticises referee

Sports Brief also reported on Erik ten Hag criticising the referee after his team's humbling defeat to Copenhagen away in Denmark, which further dented their hopes of UCL progression.

He was unhappy with their host's first goal, which he claimed was offside, and said Maguire's handball leading to a penalty was unfair because the defender's arm was in a natural position.
