Cristiano Ronaldo has received accolades for potentially avoiding a tumultuous spell with Manchester United in light of the club's recent struggles.

Ronaldo's second season with Man United following his much-celebrated return in 2021 was marred by challenges under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ultimately, the 38-year-old's departure was prompted by his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he openly criticized ten Hag and the unpopular ownership at Old Trafford, leading to an irreparable breakdown in relations.

The iconic footballer made the surprising move of transitioning from Europe to the Middle East, signing with Al-Nassr after the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, per Al Jazeera.

While his decision to play in Saudi Arabia may have seemed unconventional at the time, it has since served as an inspiration for other notable players to join him in the oil-rich nation.

Comparing Ronaldo and Man United's fortunes

Hindsight has revealed that this move was the best choice for Ronaldo, as he found his form anew, scoring an impressive 44 goals thus far in 2023 and guiding the Knights of Najd to their first-ever Arab Cup triumph.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have struggled to replicate their successful campaign from the previous season, with their recent loss to FC Copenhagen leaving them at the bottom of their Champions League group after four rounds of games.

Their difficulties have extended to the Premier League and other competitions, with the 4-3 defeat in Denmark marking their ninth loss in 17 matches this season, as reported by Eurosport.

In light of these contrasting situations, fans have asserted that Ronaldo made the right decision by departing the Premier League for the Saudi top division.

Fans praise Ronaldo for leaving United

@CR7Dilly agreed with the assertion that Ronaldo made the best decision by leaving United:

"Absolutely, Al Nassr brought our goat passion back to life! Will always be special."

@Zadaam26, on the other hand, chanted Cristiano's popular goal celebration:

"Siuuu."

@emrusty5 referenced Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan as the game changer:

"People don't know what move Cristiano played at that time. He saved himself from embarrassment, saved career bashed manager and club officials at the same time, and paved the way for a new career at a new club."

@loaf_lift added:

"Yeah, I understood that now after coming a long way."

Man United set unwanted record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester United's misery keeps compounding after their third defeat in four games in the group stage of this season's UEFA Champions League, for which they set an unwanted record.

Since records began in 2003/04, United were the first team to concede a penalty in their first four games of a Champions League season.
