  • Manchester City are the only Premier League club that have qualified for the Round of 16 of the Champions League
  • A win for Arsenal in their next clash against Lens will be enough to help them join City in the knockouts
  • Newcastle and Man United are facing an uphill task in their hope to qualify for the next round

Manchester United, rivals City, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are the four clubs representing the Premier League in this season's Champions League campaign.

Of the four teams, only City have confirmed their place in the Round of 16 of the European tournament.

The Cytizens booked their spot on Tuesday night after they beat Swiss side Young Boys 3-0 in the fourth round of Group G fixtures.

According to Sky Sports, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were both on target to help City maintain their perfect record in the group stages.

United, Arsenal, and Newcastle are facing an anxious wait to discover their fate as they push to qualify for the knockout stage.

Sports Brief takes a look at what the three teams need to seal a spot in the last 16.

Manchester United

The Red Devils have endured a frustrating run in the group stages of the continental showpiece, losing three of their four fixtures played so far.

United kicked off their campaign with a defeat against Bayern Munich before they lost their second game at home against Galatasaray.

Their only victory so far came in their third game against FC Copenhagen but followed up the result with a 3-4 defeat against the Danish giants on Wednesday night.

The result leaves them bottom of Group A with three points behind Galatasaray and Copenhagen, who have four points each.

According to Sportbible, United need nothing short of a win against Galatasaray in their next outing to stand a realistic chance of qualifying.

Arsenal

The Gunners are currently topping Group B with nine points after winning three of their four fixtures.

Their latest outing ended in a 2-0 over Sevilla on Wednesday night.

However, their qualification to the next round was delayed after PSV stunned Lens 1-0 in their own fixture.

A win over Lens in their next outing will be enough for the north Londoners to qualify.

Newcastle United

The Magpies are currently bottom of Group F with four points following their 2-0 defeat at Dortmund on Tuesday night.

However, only three points separate them from Dortmund, who are topping the charts.

If Newcastle beat Paris Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes in their next fixture, they will overtake the French giants to keep their hopes alive.

Should PSG beat Newcastle and Dortmund see off AC Milan, the St. James Park-based outfit will be out of the Champions League.

Man United set unwanted record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester United's misery keeps compounding after their third defeat in four games in the group stage of this season's UEFA Champions League, for which they set an unwanted record.

Since records began in 2003/04, United were the first team to concede a penalty in their first four games of a Champions League season.
