BoxingBonginkosi Ntuli’s Grieving Family Elaborate on the Severity of His Illness During Amazulu Visit
- Bonginkosi Ntuli's family and friends are in a state of mourning after the Amazulu captain's passing
- Tributes have poured in from across the footballing landscape for the Amazulu striker
- Ntuli passed away on Sunday following an unexpected cancer diagnosis
Bonginkosi Ntuli's sudden passing has left a gaping hole in the lives of his family and his adopted home at AmaZulu.
The striker passed away on November 5, and in a visit to the home of his family, light was shed on his final days.
A large AmaZulu contingent travelled to Ntuli's homestead in KwaNyuswa to visit the family members.
The club confirmed in their statement after the player's passing that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Bonginkosi's father, Thulani Ntuli, told visitors that the family thought the healthy footballer was suffering from flu, but once his son's condition did not improve, he was taken to doctors in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
TimesLive reported details shared by the elder Ntuli, who said.
“They drew around one litre of water and blood from his lungs which showed it was at an advanced stage. So he died of lung cancer.”
The AmaZulu striker was 32-years-old and the only son, with him having two older sisters. His family described him as the head of the household and a role model to friends and family.
Ntuli senior was still in relative disbelief, stating how his son did not seem ill when interacting with others. He told the gathering:
"You'd hear a few coughs here and there but nothing much.”
Amazulu's leadership stated that he was a unifying figure and mentor, while teammate Mbongeni Gumede said their captain was more than a colleague. As quoted by TimesLive:
“We called him Mdeva. On and off the field he was bubbly, always smiling and happy. He was a kind person who didn’t have any problem with anyone. I’ve not only lost a friend but a brother.”
