FootballControversial Referee Taylor Appointed for Chelsea and Man City in Premier League Clash
- Anthony Taylor will be in charge of Manchester City's visit to Chelsea this weekend
- This comes after he was demoted to the Championship after a controversial decision
- Taylor has a history with Chelsea fans for previous contentious decisions against them
Controversial Premier League referee, Anthony Taylor has been appointed to oversee the biggest match of game week 12 this coming weekend.
Taylor will be the centre referee when Chelsea welcome defending champions, Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on November 12.
The appointment comes as a surprise, given that he had just been demoted to the Championship, where he was in charge of the Preston North End game against Coventry City.
As BBC Sports reports, Taylor awarded another dubious penalty when he ruled that Kyle McFadzean had fouled Milutin Osmajic despite replays showing there was minimal contact.
He had been demoted to the Championship after awarding Newcastle United a contentious penalty during their two-all draw with Wolves. The referee's body, PGMOL, issued an apology, ruling that the decision was the wrong one.
Anthony Taylor vs Chelsea
The 45-year-old has a series of documented issues with Chelsea fans having issued a couple of decisions against them in recent seasons. Last season, he failed to penalise Christian Romero in the build-up to Tottenham Hotspur's late equaliser at Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine defender, who got a red card on November 6, went unpunished for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair. A couple of years back, he also failed to review an apparent Harry Maguire kick on Mitchy Batshuayi, among other incidents.
Mauricio Pochettino's side will walk into the game high on confidence after snapping Tottenham's unbeaten run in the craziest game of the season by a margin.
Manchester City, meanwhile, are back on top of the Premier League after three consecutive wins.

FootballChelsea, Roma fans celebrate Taylor's demotion
Sports Brief previously reported on Chelsea and AS Roma fans, and by extension Jose Mourinho lovers, being in a good mood after the news of Taylor's demotion to the Championship.
Despite being highly rated, he is arguably the most controversial official currently overseeing games in the English Premier League, with many questionable decisions to his name so far.
