Champions League: Sevilla accused of trying to go to Europa League after defeat to Arsenal
FootballMan City Reclaims EPL Summit: Fans Make Title Observation Amid Potential Historic Season
- Manchester City reclaimed top spot in the EPL with their win over Bournemouth
- Tottenham had the chance to go atop but succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea
- The Cityzens are hunting for their fourth straight Premier League title this term
Manchester City are on course this season to set a Premier League record that has never been achieved in the English top flight.
Having won a continental treble last season, it was largely expected the Cityzens would suffer from some hangover in 2023/24.
But that is far from the case, as Pep Guardiola’s side has maintained their competitive edge, including of their EPL title defence.
It almost looked like fatigue - physical or mental - was finally catching up to Man City after they suffered two straight league defeats to Wolves and Arsenal, which saw them slip to third on October 8.
But fans are now getting a sense of deja vu, as the Cityzens have picked themselves up once again and returned to winning ways, claiming four victories in a row across all competitions, as per Fbref.com.
This is the sort of form that makes champions, as thanks to that series of victories, last season's European treble-winners are back to a familiar position: first place in the highest tier of English football.
City go top as fans react
In a week that saw four of the top five teams in the league fail to collect wins, Man City were the only team in that category to get all three points, as Tottenham, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Liverpool all dropped precious points, as cited by ESPN.
One notable trend in the past few seasons has been the Cityzens' tendency to stay at the Premier League summit once they leapfrog their opponents.
Sergio Aguero makes surprise prediction for Manchester derby
FootballIf they manage it this season, they will become the first team in history to win four Premier League titles in a row. Not even Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United achieved this.
Here are some reactions to Man City going top:
@RidhaYahiya said:
"The Premier League teams did not take advantage of the period in which City was not good. Guardiola found the right mixture, as Doku began to shine and Haaland scored. If Guardiola takes the lead, it will be difficult to leave it."
@PetroV71720 added:
"Manchester City is back on top of the Premier League! It's quite an achievement if they can secure their fourth consecutive top-flight title. That would indeed be a historic accomplishment."

"The league is over, no dropping down again"
@kelvin04558416 claimed:
"Pep is the Messi of managers. He turned the EPL to the farmers league.."
City’s next Premier League game is a tricky fixture against Chelsea on Sunday, November 12. They host Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League before then.
