Al-Hilal attacking midfielder, Michael has disclosed the inspiration behind his homage to Cristiano Ronaldo whenever he scores a goal.

Since his move from Brazilian giants Flamengo in 2022, Michael has been a mainstay in Al-Hilal's starting XI and has been instrumental in their unbeaten streak in the 2023-2024 Saudi Pro League season.

Besides his involvement in five goals (1 goal and 4 assists) across 15 matches in various competitions for the Blue Waves, per Transfermarkt, Michael's impact extends beyond statistics, as he pulls the strings from the right wing.

Aside from running down the channel and wreaking havoc on the opposition defence, his celebration style has drawn attention, often mirroring Ronaldo's iconic 'Siuu' celebration.

During the Arab Cup final between Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr at the beginning of the season, Michael performed the 'Siuu' celebration to mark the game's opener in a keenly contested affair.

However, it was Ronaldo, the original creator of the celebrated gesture, who dashed Al-Hilal's hopes with a late equalizer and the winning goal in extra time.

Fast forward to his side's AFC Champions League tie against Mumbai City, in which the 27-year-old paid tribute to the Al-Nassr superstar by hitting the 'Siuu' to mark his debut goal in the continental championship.

When asked about his choice to emulate Ronaldo's celebration, the Brazilian midfielder openly expressed his admiration for the Portuguese legend, reflecting the influence and inspiration that Cristiano has had on his own playing style and career.

“Since I was young, I have been celebrating the way Cristiano Ronaldo does,” he said, as quoted by The Nassr Zone.

Ronaldo explains meaning behind 'Siuu'

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that 'Siuu' is a Portuguese term meaning 'yes.' Ronaldo first exclaimed it during the 2014 Ballon d'Or Gala when he outshone Messi for the award.

A year earlier, he had casually demonstrated the celebration during a pre-season match against Chelsea. Subsequently, he incorporated it as a jubilant celebration after scoring, incorporating a mid-air 'dance' before exclaiming 'Siuu' upon touchdown.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or victor now acknowledges that the celebration has gained more notoriety than initially anticipated.
