  • Harry Maguire's offence against Fulham led to the cancellation of Manchester United's early goal
  • Scott McTominay had given Erik ten Hag's side the lead at Craven Cottage on November 4
  • Maguire was spotted lashing out at the referee as he reviewed the decision on the monitor

Harry Maguire was left fuming at the referee after a Manchester United early goal against Fulham on November 4 was disallowed.

The Red Devils travelled to Craven Cottage looking to snap a run of back-to-back heavy defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United.

They started the game brightly and thought they had taken an early lead when Scott McTominay turned in an Alejandro Garnacho cross from close range.

However, after a lengthy review, the goal was disallowed by referee John Brooks after Maguire was adjudged to have impeded a Fulham defender from an offside position, though he did not touch the ball.

Maguire's frustration with referee

The former captain made his way beside the pitch monitor to air his frustration with Brooks. In a video shared online, the England international is heard saying,

"I wasn’t even involved ref. Hey! I wasn’t even involved. (expletive)... I wasn’t even involved."

His sentiments fell on deaf ears as Brooks disallowed the goal. Erik ten Hag's side were made to labour in West London before Bruno Fernandes bagged all three points in stoppage time.

The win saw them remain in 8th place in the Premier League table but moved level on 18 points with Brighton, who were held by Everton.

They play Copenhagen in the Champions League next, looking for three points to boost their qualification chances to the second round.

Maguire to remain at Manchester United

Sports Brief also reported that Maguire could reportedly continue at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window after hitting top form in recent days.

The centre-back had been staring at an uncertain future at Old Trafford after he fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag.

The former United skipper came close to leaving the club in the summer and was linked with a move to West Ham.
