Former Espanyol goalkeeper, Idris Carlos Kameni says he will gladly accept an invite from the Cameroonian national team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 39-year-old has joined Spanish third-tier side Antequera CF, making his debut in the 5-2 win against Recreativo Granada on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Kameni has not been part of the Indomitable Lions team since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

However, the AFCON winner and Olympic gold medalist, has availed himself for selection should the technical team need his services for the tournament in Ivory Coast next year in January and February.

"I don't see myself today asking to be called and overshadowing a young person. But if there is a case of force majeure, like a last minute injury (which I wouldn't wish on anyone) or an incredible situation and I'm asked 'please, can you come lend a hand?', I will gladly do so. I feel indebted to my country which gave me everything," he said, as quoted by afrik-foot.com.

The ex-Malaga goalkeeper's last appearance for the five-time African champions was in an international friendly against Zambia in 2019.

Meanwhile, Cameroon coach, Rigobert Song has been relying on the services of Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, as well as Fabrice Ondoa.

Kameni started his career in Cameroon with Kadji Sports before moving to France to sign for Le Havre. He later played for Saint-Etienne before making a big move to La Liga, where he played for Espanyol and Malaga at the peak of his career, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Mane scores as Senegal beat Cameroon

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Sadio Mane inspired Senegal to victory in their international friendly against Cameroon after netting the only goal of the game at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

The Al-Nassr star converted from the spot in the first half to hand the Teranga Lions a morale-boosting win ahead of next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Mane joined his teammates in France after playing a role in the 2023 AFCON draw in Abidjan.
