FootballRonaldo Scores & Assists As Al Nassr Beat Al Khaleej in Saudi League, Stretch Unbeaten Record to 16
- Cristiano Ronaldo was on target as Al-Nassr recorded a comfortable victory against Al Khaleej
- Ronaldo now has 19 goal contributions (12 goals and seven assists) in the 2023-2024 Saudi Pro League
- Up next for Ronaldo and Al-Nassr is a tie against Al Duhail in the AFC Champions League
Cristiano Ronaldo helped preserve Al-Nassr's unbeaten streak with a screamer and an assist as the Knights of Najd edged Al Khaleej at Al-Awwal Park on Saturday night.
The 38-year-old, who brought his minor goal-scoring drought to an end, notched the first goal before setting up former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte as Al-Nassr secured a 2-0 victory.
Al-Nassr, who boasted an unblemished record of 15 games unbeaten across all competitions, began the tie on the front foot, dominating possession and bombarding the Al Khaleej box with incessant attacks.
It was no surprise when Sadio Mane managed to get the ball at the back of the net after just 10 minutes. However, his joy and, by extension, that of the home crowd was short-lived when a VAR review chopped off the goal.
That will not deter Luis Castro's charges, who persisted for the opening goal like a house on fire, and when the goal eventually arrived, it came in spectacular fashion through the boots of none other but talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
Saudi international Abdulrahman Ghareeb, who replaced the suspended Anderson Talisca in the squad, teed up the Portuguese phenom, who took a touch before sizing himself up and releasing a pile driver, which zoomed straight into the net in the 26th minute, as noted by GOAL.
His goal took his tally for the 2023-2024 campaign to 12 strikes in the Saudi Pro League, per Sofascore, stretching the gap between himself and Al-Hilal forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored his ninth goal against Al Fateh.
The Arab Cup champions returned from the break with the same ambition and doubled their lead via a tap-in from Aymeric Laporte.
The Spanish centre-back was in the right place at the right time when an Alex Telles freekick was connected by Ronaldo, whose effort fell kindly to Laporte in front of the goal, and he made no mistake, netting his debut goal.
