It was pure drama during the Premier League encounter between Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers as a late VAR call have the Blades a crucial win on Saturday, November 4.
The penalty was given in the 100th minute, just when it looked like Wolves would come out with a draw at Bramall Lane.
Referee Rob Jones pointed to the spot with the game tied at 1-1 after he deemed forward Fabio Silva to have fouled George Baldock.
The resulting penalty was then scored by Ollie Norwood, sending Bramall Lane into delirium as Sheffield United won their first game of the season.
Prior to the late drama, Cameron Archer had given Sheffield United the lead with a lovely strike from 20 yards.
But Wolves, in the 89th minute, found a goal of their own through their own version of a beautiful strike by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
There was more drama to come as 10 minutes into added time, Silva collided with Baldock and the referee gave a penalty after a VAR review.
No one was more incensed with the decision than Fabio Silva, who had to be consoled by his teammates at full-time after the incident.
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil was also left furious as another VAR call cost his side precious points in the Premier League.
As cited on TalkSport, Wolves were previously left seething after a poor VAR call cost them all three points in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.
During the game on October 28, Hwang-hee Chan was adjudged to have fouled Fabian Schar, but replays appeared to show there was no contact.
