FootballBruno Fernandes: The Number of Times Midfielder Has Saved United with Winning Goals
- Manchester United left it late against Fulham to collect all three points
- Bruno Fernandes scored the winner for the Red Devils as the game was meandering towards a draw
- Fernandes’ late goal now means he has a unique stat under Ten Hag this season
Bruno Fernandes is the ultimate savior for Erik ten Hag, if his stats are anything to go by.
The Portuguese superstar scored a late goal as the Red Devils claimed a crucial 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, November 4 to alleviate some pressure off Erik ten Hag.
The game was devoid of real chances, as Scot McTominay thought he had given his side the lead in the eighth minute, but his strike was ruled out for offside.
United, as has been the case for majority of the season, struggled to dominate the game, and it almost looked like it would be another frustrating outing for Erik ten Hag’s side.
But as fate would have it, Bruno Fernandes, who has been thoroughly criticized by pundits over his leadership, scored a classic winner with mere minutes to go.
The 28-year old received the ball at the edge of the box before producing a skill and placing the ball past Bernd Leno.
Fernandes and winning goals
Bruno Fernandes’ goal only served to reinforce an interesting reputation he has developed under Ten Hag - of coming up with winning strikes when the team was seemingly struggling.
Sports Brief took a quick spot check and established that the Manchester United captain has come to his side’s rescue on at least three occasions with goals which ultimately won the match.
Prior to the Fulham game, Fernandes was on target with the only goal of the game as Manchester United edged Burnley on September 23.
A month prior, the midfielder scored a goal in the 76th minute which completed a comeback from two goals down against Nottingham Forest.
