Lionel Messi swiftly dismissed the persistent rumours of a potential return to his former club, FC Barcelona, during the upcoming January transfer window.

Following the conclusion of his two-year tenure with the French powerhouse, the Argentine maestro was speculated to consider a reunion with his revered 'spiritual home' in Catalonia.

Nevertheless, he chose a different path, embarking on a journey across the Atlantic to join the MLS franchise Inter Miami, despite receiving offers from several European clubs and prominent teams from the Saudi Pro League.

The speculations of a potential dream reunion resurfaced in the wake of Inter Miami's failure to secure a spot in the MLS playoffs, despite Messi's late endeavours to salvage their challenging start to the season.

According to GOAL, with almost four months separating competitive club matches, Messi has been linked with a possible sensational return to La Blaugrana on loan during the upcoming January window.

Upon receiving his record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or award, the 36-year-old football icon was confronted with inquiries about the likelihood of a homecoming.

However, the 2022 World Cup champion promptly responded to the queries with a curt and dismissive remark.

“No, no chance. Not at all”, Messi said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Messi records that will not be broken

Lionel Messi clinched his eighth Ballon d'Or award in Paris on Monday (October 30), adding another distinguished accolade to his already extensive collection of awards.

As the Argentine maestro himself acknowledges the impermanence of achievements, we are left to ponder whether there will ever be someone capable of surpassing his record in winning future Ballon d'Or awards. However, this isn't the only seemingly 'impossible' Messi record.

According to a report by Marca, Sports Brief explores seven additional records that appear insurmountable.
