Manchester United have reportedly identified two world-class managers they could move for to replace Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman has come under immense pressure in recent weeks after leading United to one of their worst starts to a new season in recent years.

The Red Devils are yet to hit the ground running since the start of the 2023/24 campaign, with ten Hag's charges struggling to achieve some level of consistency.

The Old Trafford dwellers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the Round of 16 earlier in the week, after a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Newcastle United.

Man United's defeat came barely two days after they had suffered a 3-0 loss against rivals, Manchester City in their city derby.

According to Metro UK, Wednesday's Carabao Cup defeat has left ten Hag under even more pressure, with a section of fans calling for his sacking.

Who could replace ten Hag?

Apparently, United will not be short of managerial options should they get rid of the Dutch manager after just one season in charge.

The Times reports that the Premier League giants are already considering replacing ten Hag, with a senior source at the club reportedly saying he is 'at risk' of being sacked.

The report claims that Sporting Lisbon head coach, Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane are two candidates United are currently considering to take over.

The French legend has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in May 2021 after guiding the team to three UEFA Champions League titles.

Potential cost of Man United sacking ten Hag

Sports Brief has previously reported on the potentially hefty amount Man United would have to pay to sack ten Hag if the club decides to show him the door.

Sackings have happened before, with top-class managers like Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all previously being cast away.
