  • Ange Postecoglou has asked Mauricio Pochettino to prepare for a fight when they meet on November 6
  • The Tottenham Hotspur boss has, however, praised the impact Pochettino had during his time at the club
  • Pochettino returns to North London for the first time since his sacking

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Ange Postecoglou has sent a warning to Mauricio Pochettino ahead of their meeting on Monday in a high-stakes Premier League clash.

Pochettino will return to Tottenham for the first time since he was dismissed in 2019, when he leads his stuttering Chelsea side against Spurs.

Spurs will head into the game as outright favourites, with Postecoglou masterminding an unbeaten start to the season. The North London side sit pretty at the top with 26 points, two clear of their nearest challengers.

The Blues, meanwhile, are yet to get in their groove under the Pochettino and will be out to make amends after falling to Brentford last time out.

Postecoglou: Pochettino had massive impact

Speaking ahead of the game, Postecoglou has recognised the impact the Argentine had at the club during his five-year spell at the N17.

"He almost took the club to the ultimate summit of the Champions League and got close to the league. It was an undeniable impact. Everyone I speak to here, the people who worked with him, can’t speak highly enough of him as a manager or as a person," he said, as quoted by the Guardian.

The former Celtic manager reiterated that he would like to see Pochettino get the recognition he deserves but quickly added there will be no guard of honour.

"That doesn’t mean he’s going to get a guard of honour because we want to win. I don’t think he would expect that."

Spurs are 14 points above Chelsea in the Premier League table heading into the game despite the West London side spending over one billion euros on players. Postecoglou has backed Pochettino to eventually get it right with his team.

Inside Ange Postecoglou's tactics

Sports Brief has previously reported that when little-known Postecoglou was announced as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur on June 6, not much fanfare welcomed the club statement.

But ten games into the new season, Big Ange is sitting pretty at the top of the EPL summit, yet to taste defeat.

There have been big wins like the 2-0 against Manchester United and the 2-1 against Liverpool (VAR drama notwithstanding). In the same breath, there have been performances of digging deep to protect a lead (vs. Luton) or hold on for a point (vs. Arsenal).
