  • Manchester United succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup
  • This was their second loss in a row across all competitions
  • Manager Erik ten Hag vowed to keep fighting, but serious questions are starting to emerge

Erik ten Hag described himself as a “fighter”, and vowed to get Manchester United out of a rut after a second successive defeat in all competitions on Wednesday, November 1.

The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United, a result that mirrored a similar scoreline against Manchester City in the derby just three days ago.

It was a new low for United, who have suffered successive home defeats by three goals for the first time since 1962.

There were signs Newcastle would run away with the game after first-half strikes from Miguel Almiron and Lewis Hall gave the Magpies a 2-0 lead.

Joe Willock then put the game to bed with a third goal just after the hour mark to ensure United suffered an eighth defeat in all competitions this season, as cited on Sky Sports.

“Ran out of ideas”

Speaking after the game, a seemingly defeated Ten Hag tried to make sense of yet another defeat, admitting his side was simply not good enough.

"It was shocking. It was poor,” he said.
“They were out of ideas again. It's constantly now been said over a number of years with Man Utd. You don't see an identity and you don't see what they're trying to do.”

As cited on BBC, Ten Hag then spoke on his ability to turn the team’s fortunes around.

"But I am confident I can do it. At this moment we are in a bad place and I take responsibility for it,” he added.
"But I am a fighter. I see it as a challenge."

United will have to recover from their latest defeat soon as they face a tricky trip to Fulham on Saturday, November 4 in the Premier League.

How much Manchester United will pay to sack Ten Hag

Sports Brief also reported on the hefty fee it would cost to sack Erik ten Hag as United continue a worrying run of form.

The club has sacked top managers before, with Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and more recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all getting huge payouts after their dismissal.
