  • Zinedine Zidane has previously been touted as a favourite to take charge at Manchester United
  • However, an interview with L’Equipe in 2022 suggests the Frenchman may not accept the role if the opportunity comes up
  • Ten Hag, who has been in charge since April 2022, has found himself on the receiving end in recent weeks

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has come under immense pressure in recent days following the club's slow start to the 2022/23 campaign.

United are currently struggling for form and consistency across competitions, having already lost five Premier League games in just 10 outings.

Their most recent fixture ended in a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of rivals Manchester City on Sunday at Old Trafford.

According to BBC, an Erling Haaland brace and Phil Foden's 80th-minute goal were enough to condemn United to a comprehensive defeat.

The result sparked calls from a section of fans demanding the sacking of Ten Hag.

Should United take the drastic decision, they will be sure of not falling short of managerial options, with the likes of Zinedine Zidane available.

Can Zidane take the United job?

The former Real Madrid boss has previously been touted as a possible candidate to take charge at Old Trafford.

Back in 2021, he was propped for the role after United sacked club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But can the Frenchman accept the job?

Speaking to L’Equipe in 2022, Zidane disclosed that whereas he is looking to make a return to management, there are clubs he cannot join due to various factors.

One such club is Manchester United, with the former player claiming his lack of knowledge of English rules him out of the role.

“When people say to me: 'Do you want to go to Manchester?' I understand English but I don't fully master it," he said.
“I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently," he added.

Ten Hag admits he is under pressure

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted he is under pressure following the club's difficult start to the new season.

The Red Devils have been struggling for form, results, and consistency across competitions, with their latest outing ending in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
