  • Ilkay Gundogan captained Manchester City to a history treble last season
  • The German left the club and joined Barcelona after his contract expired
  • Ruben Dias forgot that they are no longer teammates at the Ballon d'Or event

Manchester City star, Ruben Dias was either forgetful or wanted his former teammate Ilkay Gundogan to be part of their celebration during the Ballon d'Or ceremony.

Ilkay Gundogan captained Manchester City to a historic treble last season, scoring twice in the 2-1 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

He left the club and joined FC Barcelona after he and City could not reach an agreement on a new contract. He turned down several offers, including from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia.

Ruben Dias taps Ilkay Gundogan

Per Eurosport, Manchester City were named the Men's Team of the Year for the second consecutive year at the Ballon d'Or ceremony after they won the treble last season.

City CEO, Ferran Soriano and the players in attendance, Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Rodri, Julian Alvarez, and Ederson, walked to the stage to receive the award on behalf of the club.

As seen in a viral video on social media, Dias, who sat next to Gundogan, tapped his former captain's knee to tell him to get up and walk up to the stage with them, forgetting they were no longer teammates.

The German midfielder responded with a cheeky laugh as he watched his former mates receive recognition for an achievement they had together.

Gundogan's new team, Barcelona, were awarded the Female Team of the Year after they also won the treble.
